Wk12 – Artist Conversation – Travis Lober

Artist: Travis Lober

Exhibition: WORK: It’s a four letter word

Media: Print making

Gallery: CSULB School of Art

Travis is a print making major and he’s from Nor Cal. He’s a senior and he is supposed to graduate this year. Travis originally got into graphic design, but he decided he likes print making instead as an elective. He really liked the physical activity of print making as supposed to just sitting in the corner of a room and work on graphic design.

Format Analysis

Travis’s use of print making was very detailed in his art gallery. I noticed that his art had the smallest details added on them and I realized he added much more different aspects to make his pieces really come out. I noticed Travis really enjoyed to make his art revolve around wood and honestly, I became a fan of his work.

Content Analysis

Travis worked in the construction field for many years before becoming an artist. Travis was attracted to the different types of tools he worked with and he started to see them as beings with different life forms performing for different tasks. Tools were Travis’s inspiration for his art gallery. It really showed because each different piece was a tool related somewhat to construction. Travis creates his work of art to express the beauty of tools and he also has joy of operating tools and machinery.

Synthesis/My experience

Travis’s art work was something I have not seen before. I didn’t know art can be created with tools and that was really interesting seeing Travis’s art gallery. His artwork showed his carpentry skill and I was pretty amazed at the level of detail he showed in each individual art piece. I really liked how he titled his artwork; WORK and it was the first thing I saw when I walked into his art gallery.
